Week 10

We have working on tracking in after effects, and I am finding this ok to work with, but their still seems to be quite a bit of sliding no matter what I do.  It seems that after effects caused less slipping than Autodesk MatchMover, but I think that it would have been better if I would have done manual tracking.  I was not totally sure of how to use the manual tracking.

Week 9

I have been researching some special effects, and I found a couple things you should check out for next semester.  There is a guy on youtube who does some great things with special effects.  His youtube name is deepfriedectoplasm.  I frequently went to this guy for help during this semester.  Also, there is a website by the name of lesterbanks.com, and it has plenty of maya special effects and after effects tutorials.  But on top of all that, he has just a bunch of great tutorials to work on.

Week 8

I have been doing a little research in the special effects because I could see myself working with special effects in the future.  I found some really cool tutorials online that I am hoping to go through when I get some free time, aka the summer.  Also, I found that the tutorials from this guy on youtube are usually awesome and of very high quality.  I think you should check them out as possible tutorials for future special effects classes.

Week 7

I am currently in the process of working on my milk pouring and it is coming out nice, but I did struggle with the particles and the render time is taking quite a bit of time.  After I edited the milk pouring, the cereal had major issues with cereal exploding.  So, I was unable to render that with the milk, but I plan getting them both to work in the future.


Week 6

I have decided to do a fluid in Maya, and enhance an old project by adding a milk pour to my earlier cereal project.  I have found several tutorials for liquids, but many of the sites tell me that I should use Realflow.  I downloaded the program, but I have no idea how to use it.  I have decided that I can achieve a decent looking effect by using Maya.  Here are some of the tutorials that I found:

Week 5

I do have some experience using nCloth because I used a little bit for my sophomore film, but you can obviously never learn enough.  I found a couple tutorials on youtube, and the unfortunate part is that there is not enough time in the day to work on all these.  I was pleasantly surprised to found out the many uses of nCloth.

On a separate issue, I know that I owe you a couple assignments, and I will have these assignments after the break.

Week 4

I found this other tutorial, which is similar to the tutorial you gave us, but it was quicker and had a little different take on creating clouds.  I went through the tutorial, and I used it for my project, but I just changed the color of the clouds.  I struggled with this project when it came time to render everything.  I added the physical sun and sky, but it was not visible from all views.  I ended up keying and using the perspective camera because it was the only camera that would allow me to render.

Week 3

I really enjoyed working this cereal project, I textured everything and I went crazy with the render settings in Maya.  I added things like caustics, final gathering, global illumination.  The scene looked great and I was really excited, and then it came time to render.  It took an insane amount of time to render, and that's after I toned down the settings.  I plan on re-rendering the scene out with max settings for my demo reel.  Also, I have done a little research, and I plan on adding a milk pour to this scene.  I think it would be awesome, and maybe a spoon as well.

Week 2

I have been exploring tutorials on how to do different dynamic effects because I am really enjoying this class.  In my search for some cool tutorials, I have found this tutorial on how to do realistic rain setup with collisions.  Also, I found a tutorial on how to create vapor, smoke, and ectoplasm that I would like to go through to increase my knowledge in dynamics.

Week 1


After working on the UFO glow, I had no issues completing the project, and during render.  I decided to find a tutorial on fog in After Effects that would allow me to create fog.  I found the tutorial to be very helpful using particles in After Effects.  I created a useable fog that I could use quickly in the future, that is easy and efficient to use.
